Frieze Art Fair 2012

Just got back from the art fair this afternoon! First time I’ve been and I would definitely recommend that everyone goes at least once in their lives. (I say “once” as its not exactly cheap at ยฃ27 a ticket so unless your a very well off art student then I doubt it will become a regular experience….).

Anyway, I have never seen such a variety of artwork and on a huge scale as well! There were some absolutely lovely pieces and hopefully I will be able to put some images up tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚ Right now I’m absolutely shattered but I still say that it was totally worth it.

This photograph is of the roof of the cafe at Frieze. Not an actual artwork but beautiful all the same!

This was done as a very quick ink sketch using a long twig to get the messier lines and then an ink wash over the top. The subject matter was a little china doll which I thought was quite creepy, turns out its even creepier in the drawing!

Fine Art Project

Fine Art Project

This piece was the culmination of our week learning about Fine Art. Made with pasta, glue and a LOT of patience. I was quite pleased with the outcome!

The original brief was “construct” which in the dictionary means “to build or make something systematically”.

I found inspiration from the installation artist Tara Donovan who makes beautiful pieces out of day to day objects such as paper plates or straws. What’s great about her work is how she doesn’t plan or design but just lets the materials take shape as the installation is made. Often the final pieces look like they could have formed naturally, almost like they grew there. This is the sort of effect that I hoped to achieve here, I looked at how the pasta would fit together and somehow it grew on the wall!

Hello world!

Hello Readers!

This blog will be a place where I will share my work and the work of others that inspire me. Hopefully you will enjoy reading it as much I do writing itย  ๐Ÿ™‚

It would be great to hear other peoples views on my work and findings or even any recommendations on how I could improve!

This is just the start but I will have pictures posted up soon

Ciao for now!
